Ahmet Esmer was born in Kırcalı town, Bulgaria in 1934. When he was a high school student, he and his family moved to Balıkesir. Esmer then started taking photographs as a professional. In Istanbul, he worked for Hayat Magazine. In 1957, Esmer had his first solo photograph exhibition of Balıkesir city at the Balıkesir Culture Association. In the same year, he published his caricature in Dolmuş Mizah Magazine. In 2000, his caricatures were exhibited in the Caricature Association in Istanbul and the Caricature Museum in Fatih, Istanbul. His works have been exhibited both in Turkey and abroad, and have been published in many catalogs. Esmer has also taken humorous photographs which exhibited them in Bulgaria, Belgium, Spain, and Canada. He received awards for his works.

Esmer supervised photography courses at the Balıkesir Public Education Center. He founded and directed BASAF (Photographic Art Association of Balıkesir) together with his friends. Esmer is an honorary member of BASAF. He is also a member of the Association of Cartoonists in Turkey and the Anatolian Cartoonists Association in Bursa. His TV program about nostalgic Balıkesir has been broadcasted on the local channel of Balıkesir KRT TV for seven years on a weekly basis. Esmer currently lives and works in Balıkesir.
