Veliye Martı began learning woodblock printing from Mehmet Hamdi Eyuboğlu at Kalamış Yazmaları workshop. Since then, she has been making woodblock prints enthusiastically more than 25 years. She has also taught at universities and private classes. In 2008, Martı founded her workshop “Martı Yazma Atölyesi” in Kucukayasofya, Sultanahmet. In addition to traditional Turkish motifs, she makes different kinds of blocks such as Karagöz and Hacivat, Zenne, Karadenizli, Greek doctor, Pişekar, Beb Ruhi and Şahmaran, and prints them on curtains, bed covers, and clothes. She makes theater costumes using her block prints. Currently, Martı continues to work in Istanbul.
