Prof. Sevim Çizer was born in Muğla in 1951. She graduated from the Ceramic Department at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul in 1974. Between 1975 and 1984, she worked as a ceramic designer, art director and art consultant in ceramic industry. Since 1984, she has worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dokuz Eylül University. She completed her doctoral degree, proficiency in arts. In 1987, Çizer founded the Ceramic Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dokuz Eylül University. She received the title of Associate Professor in 1990, and Professorship in 1996. Since 2001, Çizer has served as the Head of the Ceramic Department at Dokuz Eylül University. Between 1997 and 2002, she was co-founder and organizer of the International Ceramic Symposium in Izmir.

Çizer has had many solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group exhibitions, international symposiums, workshops and biennials in Turkey and abroad. She has also served as a jury in several international biennials including 6th Cairo International Biennial for Ceramics (2002), First International Biennial of wall tiles in San Nicolas (2003), and Third International Ceramics Biennial fo Kapfenberg (2003). Between 1995 and 2000, Çizer received Achievement Awards of State Ceramic Competitions, which was organized by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Çizer has researched and published numerous articles on ceramics. She has republished her book “Luster” (Izmir: Dokuz Eylül University Publications) in 2010. In 2009, she established the West Anatolian Ceramics Research and Practice Center. Currently, she works as the head of this center. Çizer is a member of Turkish Ceramic Society, UNESCO, AIAP.
