Sadi Diren was born in Istanbul in 1927. He graduated from the high school College Saint Michel. He studied at the Faculty of Law, but changed his mind and began his studies at the Ceramic Department of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. He opened his ceramic studio in Göksu in 1953 and worked there until 1954. He opened his first exhibition at Maya Gallery in Istanbul in 1953. He opened other exhibitions at the Helikon Association in Ankara and in Kayseri in 1954. The same year, he had an exhibition at the Moderro Gallery for the International Art conference which was organized in Istanbul. Diren finished his school in 1953 and went to Germany to study art between 1956 and 1958. He had an exhibition at Werkkunstschule in Offenbach in 1955 and participated in the International Ceramic Exhibition in Cannes. In 1958 he had an exhibition at Kunstkabinet in Frankfurt. The same year he exhibited his ceramics at the Hannover fair, Turkish press secretary center in Badyodesberg, Handicraft exhibition in Stuttgart and Stutagrter Hausbücherel Galeri in Frankfurt. Diren exhibited his ceramics in Hannover and at Galeria D Arte Totti in Milano in 1960. He had a solo exhibition in Hannover in 1961, and the next year he exhibited his ceramics in Höhr-Grenzhausen, Motabauer, and the Galeria Stenzeide in Münich. In 1963 he had his exhibitions at Galerie die Brücke in Bielefeld Galerie Stenzei in Münich, a fair in Hannover, Galerie N in Bremen.
He stayed in Germany until 1964 and worked there as an industrial ceramic designer. He became a member of instructors at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1964. It is possible to see the character of Anatolian ceramics in his works. His works can be seen at Hetjent Museum, Düsseldorf and the State Museum of Painting and Sculpture in Turkey. He received a title of “State Artist” in 1991.
