Dr. Tolga Tüzün was born in Istanbul in 1971. He started taking classical piano lessons at the age of eleven. He continued playing piano with Meral Beşeli at Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory. After receiving his BA in Political Sciences at Marmara University, he started working as a professional musician. Since 1999, Tüzün has performed with famous musicians including Ali Perret, Aydın Esen, Sarp Maden, İlhan Erşahin, Arto Tunç, and Oğuz Büyükberber. In 2000, he studied composition with Pieter Snapper and Marc Wingate, and advanced orchestration with Ilhan Usmanbas and Hasan Ucarsu in the Center for Advanced Music Studies at Istanbul Technical University. During his doctoral studies in Music Composition at City University New York Graduate Center, Tüzün studied composition with David Olan and Tristan Murail (Columbia University) in New York, and with Philippe Leroux in Paris. His compositions have been performed in various cities throughout the US and Europe. He has given lectures on music theory and electro-acoustic music at international conferences. Between 2003 and 2005, he taught harmony and composition at Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music. Tüzün participated in the composition and computer music course at IRCAM during 2005-2006. Currently, Tüzün teaches composition and electronic music as an assistant professor at Istanbul Bilgi University.
