Şermin Ciddi was born in Istanbul. She attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul, where she received her formative education in oil painting and watercolors from Sabri Berkel, Nurullah Berk and Prof. Dinçer Erimez. During her residence in England, she carried out research on Turkish carpet and kilim motifs and applied these motifs to ceramics and wood ornaments. In 1996, she began learning illumination and miniature at the Prof. Dr. A. Süheyl Ünver Workshop and received a certificate in 1999. Since then, she has specialized in the Ottoman art of miniature painting and illumination and taught miniatures with her mentor Gülbün Mesara. Ciddi has had one solo exhibition and has participated in 31 group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Her miniatures have been published in many publications and can be seen in national and international private collections. She painted miniatures with her mentor Nusret Çolpan for the TRT 2′s "Mevlana" documentary program in 2007. In the following year, she painted miniatures for the TRT 2′s  "Katip Çelebi" documentary program. Ciddi was one of six invited members, representing Turkish traditional arts at the “All Arts Istanbul” exhibition. In 2012, TRT network commissioned her to paint 16 individual miniatures, which were utilized in a ten-part documentary series on the life and times of Evliya Celebi. Ciddi currently lives and works in Istanbul.
