Necati Sancaktutan was born in Istanbul in 1965. He graduated from the Illumination and Miniature Program in the Department of traditional Turkish Handicrafts in the Faculty of Fine Arts of Marmara University in 1994. He continued master’s degree at his alma mater. He gave illumination classes at Üsküdar Municipality Altunizade Cultural Art Center between 1995 and 2001. Sancaktutan worked as a tutor at Al-Balqa University, the Islam Art and Architecture Institution between 2001 and 2008. In 2004 he received a title of assistant professor on art from Al-Balqa University. He continued to take a private lesson from Prof. Dr. Çiçek Derman and got a practicing certificate on illumination. In Jordan, Sancaktutan served as a design specialist in the restoration work of pulpit which belonged to Salahaddin Eyyubi. He had solo exhibitions and workshops in Jordan (2002-2004), Tunisia (2006) and Kuwait (2008), and participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Sancaktutan prepared an illumination panel work for the royal family of Bahrain. Since 2004 he has prepared illumination works for the royal family of Jordan and the wife of the Dubai Sheikh, princess Heye binti Hüseyin. For the past two years, Sancaktutan has been a member of the board committee of Al-Burda competition which is organized by Abu Dhabi Ministry of Culture. As of today Sancaktutan serves as an adviser for the Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic.
