Ayşe Nurgül Kabasakal was born in Istanbul in 1982. She finished at Eyüp Anadolu İmam Hatip High School. In 2000, she started learning illumination (Tezhip) art from Mine Orhan at the Birlik Foundation. Between 2005 and 2007, Kabasakal learned miniature and flower painting from Orhan Dağlı at ISMEK Applied Turkish-Islamic Arts Library. She obtained her professional license in flower painting in 2007, and in illumination art in 2010. In 2008, Kabasakal received second prize in the category of miniature in a competition, which was held by ISMEK on the occasion of the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture. She has illuminated calligraphy works of Fuat Başar, Erol Dönmez, Mehmet Özçay, Orhan Dağlı, Nurullah Özdem and Macit Ayral. Kabasakal has participated in many group exhibitions in Istanbul. Currently, she continues to work and teach at her workshop in Istanbul.
