Ahmet Çoktan was born in Istanbul in 1962. He learned art of marbling (Ebru) from Hikmet Barutçugil, Alparslan Babaoğlu and Fuat Başar. In 1990, he obtained a professional license from Alparslan Babaoğlu and Fuat Başar. Çoktan published “Türk Ebru Sanat” in 1992. He taught marbling at the Istanbul Caferağa Medresesi and the Istanbul Artisans Bazaar. He went to the Turkish Cultural City in Japan, and taught marbling for a year. Çoktan has participated in many group exhibitions and conferences in Turkey, Australia, England, Germany, Holland and Japan. He has also appeared on TV and radio programs. In Malta, Germany and England, he introduced art of marbling in tourism fairs, which were organized by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Çoktan has had over 37 solo exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Currently, he continues to work with Ekrem Çoktan at the workshop in Istanbul.
