Nursan Güven

In 1985 Nursan Güven founded a ceramic workshop in Iznik with her husband Adil Can Güven, who is also a ceramic artist. All ceramics made by Nursan and Adil Can Güven are made of traditional materials using traditional techniques. They have been making the same kind of glazed vessels as those made 7000 years ago: reductions of Greek ceramics; white clay ceramics with Roman reliefs; Byzantine and Selcuk sgrafitto ceramics; ceramics with slip technique; color glazed Seljuk and Ottoman ceramics with black designs; blue and white ceramics in the style of the Anatolian Beylik (emirates or principalities) period; Iznik ceramics of  the 15th to 17th centuries; and Çanakkale ceramics and Kütahya ceramics of the 18th century. Nursan has had a lot of solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions. The Güvens have provided the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism with examples of their works. The Adil Can and Nursan Art Workshop is part of the Anatolian Art Club.
