Hasan Tabakoğlu was born in Trabzon in 1951. He started to learn how to make gold and silver thread (Kazaz work) in 1971. This craft was inherited from the Lydians, whose civilization dates to the 28th century B.C. Kazaz work was survived in the Ottoman Empire in some certain parts of Anatolia and continues today. The work of Kazaz is made of thin golden and silver threads. It is knitted with 1000 carat silver and 24 carat gold wire thread, which is 0.08 micron.
