Halil Çelik was born in the Gürlek village in the district of Banaz in Uşak in 1938. After finishing primary school in Gürlek, he entered Savaştepe Teacher’s School in 1955 and had a musical education there. He had an interest in wooden works as well. After finishing school in 1961, he began teaching in many districts in Turkey. After his retirement, he founded his musical school and taught music and gave classes of stringed musical instrument such as bağlama and kabak kemane. Some of his students entered the conservatory in Turkey and served as academicians in their Universities. Since 1978 he started to make the instrument, kabak kemane as an amateur. At his own workshop in Uşak, he continues to make kabak kemane for Turkish and foreign professional and amateur musicians. As well as kabak kemane, he makes other instruments: tarbağ, basnağme, cüudi, and cütardi.
