Eda Funda Erkan was born in Istanbul in 1977. She graduated from the Department of Librarianship in the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University in 2000. She learned marbling (Ebru) from Birol Biçer and Fuat Başar, illumination art (Tezhip) from Emel Türkmen, and painting from İlhami Atalay. In 2006, Erkan won first prize in the Turkish Islamic Arts Illumination Competition, which was organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. In 2007, she obtained her professional license in illumination art from Emel Türkmen. Since 2001, Erkan has participated in many group exhibitions and competitions in Turkey and abroad. Her works can be seen in many private collections. Currently, she continues to work at the Pembekapı Art Workshop in Istanbul.
