Şakir Gürzumar was born in Ankara in 1958. He is a renowned theatre director. He graduated from the Theater Department at Ankara State Conservatory in 1979. In the same year he started working at the Ankara State Theatre. He also taught acting at Ankara State Conservatory. In 1981 Gürzumar was appointed to the Adana State Theatre as art director. After working at the Adana State Theatre for four years, he was sent to London by the State Theatre to pursue his study in Theater at the British Theatre Association in 1986. After working in London from 1990-1991 and 1992-1996, Gürzumar was appointed to the Adana State Theatre again as art director. In 1989 he was appointed to the Ankara State Theatre as art director. Since 2009 he has been working as director in the Istanbul State Theatre. Gürzumar has directed many plays for the State Theatres, such as "Küçük Prens," "Töre," "Hayvan Çiftliği" and "Atları da Vururlar." Besides the State Theatres, he has directed private theatres such as Kocaeli Municipality Theatre, Hadi Çaman Theatre, Don Quixote Production Theatre, and Türker İnanoğlu Maslak Show Center. He has received many awards including the "Best Directing Award" by the İzmit Municipality Theatre in 2000 and the "Most Successful Director" in the Afife Theatre Awards in 2005. Gürzumar currently continues his work in Istanbul.
