After graduating from the Theater Department of the Ankara State Conservatory, Nesrin Kazankaya went to Germany and studied stage management at Volkwanghochschule for three years. She served as an actress and director in the Ankara State Theatre for 15 years and the Ankara Art Theatre for one year. She founded the Theatre for Children and Young People in the Ankara State Theatre. During the 1998-1999 season, she served as a chair in the Istanbul State Theatre. Besides the State Theatre, she directed on other stages as well. She has also translated plays from German and English into Turkish.

As of today, Kazankaya teaches and serves as a Department Chair at Pera Fine Arts Theatre School which is the first theater high school in Turkey. She also serves as a director in the Theatre Pera, which she founded in 2001. She directed Ariel Dorfman’s play “the Death and Girl.” She staged Volker Ludwig’s “Aman Aman” with actors who graduated from Pera Theater School. She also staged Colin Serreau’s “Bir Çöküşün Güldürüsü (Tavşan Tavşan)” (2002), her own work “Seyir Defteri (Julia)” (2003), (performed herself), her own work “Dobrinja’da Düğün (Bir Günün Trilogyası)” (2004) (performed herself), and her own work “Şerefe Hatıralar (İstanbul 1955)” (2005) (performed herself). Kazankaya has been awarded many times for her stage direction and playwriting. During the 2007-2008 season, she acted in the “Profesör ve Hulahop” and directed William Shakespeare’s “Venedik Taciri.” During the 2008-2009 season, Kazankaya directed "Rahat Yaşamaya Övgü! (Brecht Kabare),” which was adapted from Bertolt Brecht’s play and his writings. Kazankaya has published many books such as Toplu Oyunları1, Seyir Defteri (Julia), and Dobrinja’da Düğün (Bir Günün Trilogyası).
