Ferhan Şensoy was born in Çarşamba, Samsun in 1951. He started his secondary school education at Galatasaray High School and completed it in Çarşamba High School in 1970. After 1968 he wrote stories and poems that were published in Yeni Ufuklar and Soyut magazines. He began his professional theatrical career in the Grup Oyuncuları in 1971. He first performed in the play “Haneler” at the Devekuşu Kabare Theatre. Interrupting his education at the State Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Architecture, he went to France in 1972 and graduated from Theatre National De Strasbourg in 1974. After his graduation, Şensoy worked as an assistant director to Jerome Savary and Andre Louis Perinetti at the Magic Circus. In 1975 he received the "Best Foreign Writer" award for the play “Ce Fou De Gogol” in Montreal. In the same year, Şensoy returned to Turkey. In the next year, he wrote a script for a TV program in which he played the role of waiter. In 1979 he wrote a drama series entitled “Sizin Dershane.”

In 1977 his first book “Kazancı Yokuşu” was published. Since then Şensoy has published over 20 books. In 1977 he shot his first film “kızını Dövmeyen Dizini Döver.” In 1980 he founded his own acting group “Ortaoyuncular” and a theater school “Nöbetçi Theater” for young generation. With the members of Ortaoyuncular, Şensoy has performed in numerous plays and shot various TV series and films. In 1986 he rewrote a play “Yaşamak Pahalı” as a film script and directed it. He also wrote a film script “Bir Bilen” and directed and stared in the film. In 1989 he received a turban from Münir Özkul, which has passed from Kel Hasan Efendi to İsmail Dümbüllü, then from İsmail Dümbüllü to Münir Özkul. At the same year he opened Ses-1885 Theater, repairing the Ses Opereti. Şensoy wrote “Ferhangi Şeyler” and performed it on stage in 1987. This show was performed 1530 times until 2004. In 1990 “Ortaoyuncular” moved to Küçük Sahne, then to Ses-1885 Theater. In the same year he played in the film “Büyük Yalnızlık” with famous singer, Sezen Aksu. In 1994 he directed two plays on the boat named “İçinden Dalga Geçen Tiyatro.” These plays were entitled “Seyircili Seyir Defteri” and “Kırkambar–Gece Tiyatrosu.”
