Nejat Uygur was born in Kilis in 1927. He finished primary education in Siirt, Ezine, and İntepe. In this period, he had an interest in theater. After finishing middle school in Sarıyer, Çanakkale, and Manisa, Uygur entered the Sculpture Department at the Fine Art Academy, but did not complete a degree there. In 1949, he started performing at the Nejat Uygur Theatre as a professional actor. In 1998, Uygur received the title of the State Artist from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
