Mutlu Başkaya was born in Aydın in 1969 and graduated from the Fine Art Faculty of Hacettepe University in 1992. She started to work as a research assistant in the same department and same year attended to Gioella Suardi workshop in Italy. After completing her master degrees on art on the subject of “Raku texture in contemporary ceramics interpretation of Muğla chimneys” in 1997, she was appointed to the position of instructor in 1999.  Başkaya participated in 45 group exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad. She has had three solo exhibitions and received 9 awards including the award of “artist worthy of praise” given by Art institute in 1999 and of “TUR-ART 95 and 97”. She lived in Milano between 1999 2003 and continued her studies in Gioella Suardi studio in Bergamo. In summer of 2003, she attended to the workshop “wood firing” arranged by the artist Kees Hogendam in Holland. Mutlu Başkaya was in Lithuania for a week within the context of Erasmus program granted by EU in 2006 and held a seminar at Vilnus Accademy. She has arranged Raku workshop many times and three Paper Kiln Workshops between 2007 and 2008. Başkaya organized Paper Kiln Workshop exhibition at Hacettepe University, the Exhibition Centre in 2008 as well. Currently Başkaya works at her alma mater as an instructor.
