Volkan Hürsever was born in Istanbul in 1969. He graduated from the Contrabass Department of the Istanbul State Conservatory at Mimar Sinan University in 1995. He first took jazz theory classes from Neşet Ruacan. Hürsever has performed with many Turkish and foreign musicians both in Turkey and abroad. He has participated in many festivals, given concerts and performed in lots of albums. Hürsever participated in the Istanbul Jazz Collective, which was founded by saxophonist and composer, Ricky Ford. Hürsever also participated in Roy Haynes’s “Birds of a Feather” Europe tour.

Hürsever taught contrabass at Bilgi University. He worked with famous musicians from around the world: İmer Demirer, Neşet Ruacan, Burçin Büke, Genco Arı, Erhan Seçkin, Can Kozlu, Nükhet Ruacan, Cem Aksel, Turgut Alp Bekiroğlu, Kerem Görsev, İlhan Erşahin, Allan Haris, Laverne Buttler, Marion Cowings, Cengiz Baysal, Billy James, Harvey Thompson, Volkan Öktem, Aşkın Arsunan, Şenova Ülker, Clifford Jarvis, Roy Haynes, Kenny Garrett, Nicholas Payton and Dave Kikovski. As of today, Hürsever is one of the outstanding jazz contrabassists in Turkey.
