Ali Darmar was born in 1946. He studied piano with Verda Un, Popi Mihailides, and Fredi Statzer in his childhood. In 1974 Darmar moved to Paris to enter Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris and studied piano with Cecile de Brunhoff, Monique Dechausse, and Hermaine Mounier. He also studied composition with Nadia Boulanger and Annette Dieudonne. Darmar received several scholarships from UNESCO (1976) and the French Government (1981). He then graduated from the Composition Department at The Rueil-Malmaison Conservator. He got another degree on composition from Jacques Castérède′s class in the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. He moved back to Turkey and taught music at Bilkent University and Yıldız Technical University. Since 2003 Darmar has worked with concert pianist Anjelika Akbar. Darmar has received many awards including Rueil Malmaison silver medal and the Sevda Cenap And Foundation achievement award. His concerto "Cunda" was premiered by conductor Gürer Aykal and pianist Ayşegül Sarıca in Ankara in 2014. Darmar currently lives in Istanbul and teaches piano.
