İnci Çayırlı was born in Istanbul. She studied at the Çamlıca High School for Girls. She started music education at the instigation of composer and her uncle, Fahri Kopuz, and entered Istanbul Municipality Conservatory in 1953. She became an assistant of Sadi Yaver Ataman in the Folklore Practice Ensemble. In 1954, she joined the Istanbul Radio. In the same time, Çayırlı worked in the Münir Nurettin Selçuk Chorus for a long time. She served as an assistant conductor in the Istanbul University, State Conservatory Turkish Music Executive Committee. Çayırlı has given numerous concerts in Turkey and abroad. In 1977, she began teaching at the State Turkish Music Conservatory, which belongs to Istanbul Technical University. Between 1977 and 1985, she conducted Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music Chorus. Since 1988, she has served as a general art director in the Turkish Music Ensemble, which belongs to Istanbul Technical University. Between 1990 and 1995, Çayırlı served as a director in the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Bursa State Classical Turkish Music Chorus. In 1998, she received the title of State Artist.
