Haluk Levent was born in Adana in 1968. He finished his primary education at Sabancı Primary School. After studying at Adana Atatürk High School, he studied at the Forest School of Karadeniz Technical University, Ankara University, Kastamonu Vocational College Computer Program, and the Physical Department of Middle Eastern Technical University, and the Department of Accounting at Ankara University for a short time. After engaging in business, he quitted it and started singing in a number of different towns. He came to Istanbul in 1992 and worked at many bars in Ortaköy. In 1993, Levent released “Yollarda” and sold over 200,000 copies and he became well-known with this album. In 1995, his album “Bir Gece Vakti” was launched and sold over 1 million copies. In the next year, Levent released “Arkadaş”, and was recognized as one of the most successful Anatolian Rock singers. In 1997, he was jailed for 9 months, where he wrote Kedi Köprüsü, which was published later. In 1998, after releasing the album “Yine Ayrılık”, Levent went to military service. During his military service, he gave many concerts in Eastern and Southeast Anatolia. In 1999, he also gave concerts for earthquake victims. After completing his military service, Levent released “Kral Çıplak” (2001), “Bir Erkeğin Günlüğü” (2002), “Aç Pencereni” (2004), and “Annemin Türküleri” (2005). He also published his second essay Moritos’un Düşleri. He has also given countless concerts in Turkey and abroad. Levent is known for his environmentalist stance; he once sang for 11 hours straight in support of an environmental cause, setting a difficult to break record.
