Halil Karaduman was born in 1959 in Urfa, Birecik and grew up in Gaziantep. When he was 5 years old, Karaduman started learning how to play kanun and taking music lessons from his father, who is also a kanun player. After finishing his high School in Gaziantep, Karaduman came to Istanbul in 1977 to study at the Istanbul Technical University State Conservatory. He graduated with the honors. Since he came to Istanbul, Karaduman took an important place in the music world as a music director, composer and kanun player. He has worked with famous artists such as Zeki Müren, Bülent Ersoy, Müzeyyen Senar, İbrahim Tatlıses, Sezen Aksu, and Zülfü Livaneli, and recorded plaques and gave concerts.

In recent years Karaduman has worked with Zülfü Livaneli giving him the opportunity to work with foreign orchestras and singers abroad. Some of the artists and musicians with whom he worked with abroad are Zubin Mehta, Mikis Teodarakis, Maria Faunduri, Hıristo Triamulis, Geora Faidman, Al di Meola, Habib Chan, and Lizbeth List. As of today, he has over 100 kanun students in the USA, Greece, Jordan, Tunisia, Lebanon, Syria and other countries. He gives lectures, seminars and special concerts on kanun in foreign conservatories. He serves as a state kanun artist who was recognized by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Karaduman has recorded three CDs in Turkey, one in the USA and two in Greece. He built a new ecole to play kanun and wrote a method. He also has song works: Devlerin Aşkı, Rüyalarda Buluşuruz, Kutupta Yaz Gibi, Leyla, etc.
