Güç Başar Gülle was born in Kırıkkale in 1977. He graduated from the Philosophy Department at Bosphorus University in 2001. He learned how to play guitar from Safa Yeprem during studying at university. Gülle continued his master’s degree at the Turkish Music Conservatory of Istanbul Technical University, and studied oud techniques with Mutlu Torun, Turkish Music Repertoire with Nevzat Atlığ, and music theories with Nail Yavuzoğlu. After completing his master’s degree in 2004, he went to the US and studied in the Jazz Composition Department at Berklee College of Music for two years. During this time, Gülle worked on Jazz guitar with Bruce Bartlett, Jazz composition with Ken Pullig, Dick Lowell and Greg Hopkins, arrangement techniques with Jackson Shultz and Scott Free. While he stayed in Boston, Gülle gave his recitals at Harvard University. He also gave his concerts as a guitarist and oud player at UCLA, George Washington University, MIT and Rice University. Between 2006 and 2008, Gülle worked on Contemporary Classic Music Composition and Theories with Michael Ellison and Rueben de Lautour at MIAM of Istanbul Technical University. In 2008, he gave seminars on Ottoman Turkish Music and Turkish Music instruments to BBC Symphony Orchestra, which would premiere Michael Ellison’s “Concerto for Turkish Music Instruments and Cello”. Gülle’s composition for two guitars was premiered by DUOİST at Memphis University. He composed music for the documentary program “Von Mülleseln und Seifenfrauen-Geschichten aus Mardin”, which was directed by Dirk Michael Schaefer and broadcasted on French-German Channel “Arte”. Currently, Gülle continues his work as an oud and guitar player and a music tutor in Istanbul.
