Gökhan Faruk Ünal was born in Ankara in 1976. He studied tanbour at the Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory. In 2005 he started playing the cello. In 2008 Ünal began cello lessons with Saim Erkul and then went to the London Collage of Music, where he graduated in 2009. Ünal currently teaches tanbour and cello at the Ismek classes belongs to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. He has performed as tanbour player and cellist in various music groups and orchestras. He founded music groups such as Group Melody, Yedi Ahenk, Orient Trip, Faslo Istanbul and Esya, and conducts them. Ünal is a member of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Orchestra, the Turkish Music Orchestra, and the Pera Youth Orchestra. He currently continues his work in Istanbul.
