Ferruh Yarkın was born in Istanbul in 1964. After finishing high school, he entered Istanbul Technical University, Turkish Music State Conservatory at the instigation of tambour artist and composer, Kamuran Yarkın in 1983. Ferruh learned music from Kani Karaca and Kurşit Ungay. During his education at the conservatory, Ferruh Yarkın participated in many concerts as a rhythm artist. In 1987 he graduated and started teaching rhythm application and its principal occupation at the departments of Folk Dances and of Fundamental Sciences in Turkish Music State Conservatory until 2001.
In 1988 as a professional artist, Yarkın participated in the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Istanbul State Turkish Music Ensemble, which was founded by tambour player Necdet Yaşar. He performed with famous artists such as Alaeddin Yavaşca, Bekir Sıdkı Sezgin, Cinuçen Tanrıkorur and Ihsan Ozgen. Yarkın accompanied many artists as a kanun and rhythm player as well. He has also performed in numerous concerts with tambour player Necdet Yaşar, both in Turkey and abroad. In 1995 Yarkın founded the "Yarkın Turkish Rhythm Group" with his brother Fahrettin Yarkın. They released two albums: “Ten” and “Ten Ten’de” and gave concerts in many countries to introduce Turkish rhythm. They participated in an organization named “Lirik Tarih”. They also performed with Fahir Atakoğlu on the 75th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. The group played music for the film “Ağır Roman” as well. The Yarkın Turkish Rhythm Group released an album “Kervansaray” and gave 14 concerts on it in Holland. They also recorded a CD with Civan Gasparyan and Erkan Oğur and gave concerts together. Under the project “Birlikte Yaşayalım (Let’s live together)”, the group performed many concerts with their repertoires related to Greek, Armenian, Jewish and Turkish Culture. They composed and performed a rhythm work for a dance show “Anadolu Ateşi” and “Hürrem Sultan”. They also gave a rhythm lesson to the Sultan of the Dance Group. As of today, Yarkın serves as a rhythm artist in the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Istanbul State Turkish Music Ensemble.
