Elif Çağlar was born in Istanbul in 1980. She studied Jazz Composition at Istanbul Bilgi University between 1998 and 2002 with Turkey’s leading jazz musicians such as Randy Esen, Nukhet Ruacan, E. Ali Perret, Can Kozlu, Aydin Esen, Neset Ruacan, Selen Gulun, Imer Demirer, and Ricky Ford. Çağlar participated in Lawrence ′Butch′ Morris′s unique "conduction" experience and also focused on Classical Turkish Music with Timur Selcuk for a year. She moved to New York to pursue her Master′s Degree in Jazz Performance at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, where she studied with Sheila Jordan and graduated with an award in 2005. In New York, Çağlar performed at clubs including 55 Bar, Nublu, The Knitting Factory, and The C-Note. After returning back to Istanbul in 2006, she began singing with various bands such as The Curly Trio, Four in the Pocket, and Cogito. She also teaches voice. In 2010, Çağlar released her album “m-u-s-i-c”.
