Dorukhan Doruk was born in Istanbul in 1991. He began his cello studies in 2000 with Dilbağ Tokay at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory. In 2008, he was accepted to Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with the DAAD scholarship. He currently continues studying with Claus Kanngiesser in Germany.

Doruk made his solo debut with an orchestra at the age of 13. Since then, he has performed as a soloist with prominent orchestras such as Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, Zagreb Soloists, Slovak Sinfonietta, Budapest Strings, Les Symphonistes Européens, Orchestra Baskent, Filarmonia Istanbul, and Presidential Symphony Orchestra of Turkey. He has attended various national and international master classes, where he has worked with prominent cellists such as Wolfgang Boetcher, Antonio Meneses, Alexander Rudin, Laszlo Mezo, Amit Peled, and Joel Krosnick. Doruk became a member of the International Children’s Orchestra in 2005; Doğuş Kid’s Symphony Orchestra in 2006; and the National Youth Orchestra in 2007.

He has received many awards at various national and international competitions including "First Prize" and 5 Special Awards at the 8th International Antonio Janigro Cello Competition in Croatia (2010), “First Prize” at the International Liezen Cello Competition in Austria (2010), “Third Prize” in the Bodensee Music Competition in Überlingen-Germany (2009), “First Prize” and “The Best Interpreter of Turkish Composer award” at the First National Violoncello Competition in Mersin-Turkey (2008), “First Prize” at the “12th Cannetti International Music Festival” in Turkey (2007), “First Prize” at the “18. International Young Musicians Competition” in Italy (2007), and “First Prize” at the 7th International German and Austrian Music Competition in Bulgaria (2007).

Doruk has released two CDs: the P.I. Tchaikovsky′s “Pezzo Capriccioso” accompanied by Budapest Strings Orchestra (Cello Academy Rutesheim) and the "Impressionen," made with the conductor Georg Mais and the Kammerphilharmonie Slowakische Sinfonietta (Waterpipe Records).

Doruk has been supported as a scholar of the project “Güher & Süher Pekinel Young Musicians on World Stage” with the financial support of Onduline.
