Didem Karakaya Cengiz was born in Mersin in 1980. She studied flute with Nefise Yazıcı and Banu Didem Güven at the State Conservatory of Mersin University. In 1998 she performed as a soloist with the Mersin University State Conservatory Symphony Orchestra at a youth concert. In the same year she transferred to the State Conservatory of Istanbul University and graduated in 2002. She attended many master classes of famous artists such as Siobhan Grealy, Jean Ferrandis, Mats Möller, Nvart Andreassian, Sibel Kumru Pensel, Andras Adorjan, Robert Winn, Bülent Evcil, Andrea Oliva, Gülşen Tatu, Davide Formisano, Raffaele Travisani, Emmanuel Pahud and Maxence Larrieu. In 2006 Karakaya Cengiz worked with Philippe Bernold in the 48th International Nice Academy.

Karakaya Cengiz has performed as a soloist as well as a member of Marsyas Flute Quartet and Trio Ad Libitum. She has also performed with various orchestras in many concerts and music festivals in Turkey and abroad. In 2002-2009 she prepared radio programs such as "Konserler Şehri Istanbul," "Klasik Müziğe Çağrı," "Sabah ve Müzik," "Çağdaş Müzik," "Avrupa Konserleri" and "Sabah Konseri" for Radio-3 of TRT Istanbul Radio. In 2010-2011 she taught at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Kocaeli University. Karakaya Cengiz continues her Master′s degree at the State Conservatory of Istanbul University. She currently performs as a flutist member of Trio ad Libitum and Marsyas Flute Quartet.
