Cem Önertürk was born in Ankara in 1986. He began his music studies with Prof. Ilhan Baran at the age of twelve. He was accepted in Bilkent Prep School in 1999 and continued studying the flute with Stiliana Stavreva in the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts at Bilkent University. After graduating from Bilkent University with honors in 2007, Önertürk entered the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, where he pursued his Master′s degree with Prof. András Adorján. Önertürk completed his Master′s degree in 2009 and doctoral degree at Bilkent University in 2013.

Since 1998 Önertürk has performed in numerous concerts. In 2005 he performed as a soloist with the Bilkent Youth Orchestra. He won the Yamaha Scholarship in 2006 and the DAAD Fellowship in 2007. In the same year, he won the first prize in the Cahit Koparal Flute Competition. In 2008 he performed with the Young Euro Classic Orchestra in China and Germany. In 2009-2010 Önertürk performed the Khachaturian Flute Concerto with the Antalya State Symphony Orchestra. He also toured the United States and Canada with the Castleton Festival Orchestra, conducted by Lorin Maazel. In 2011 Önertürk performed as a soloist in 18 concerts.

Önertürk has participated in many Master classes of famous artists such as Prof. Gulsen Tatu, Robert, Patrick Gallois, Prof. Andras  Adorjan, Maurice Steger and Emmanuel Pahud. Önertürk performs regularly with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra, Tekfen Philharmonic Orchestra, Hezarfen Ensemble, Arcis Ensemble, Ankara Wind Quintet, and Duo Sonant.
