Aziz Şenol Filiz

Aziz Şenol Filiz was born in Tire. He took his first ney (reed flute) lessons from Sencer Derya in Izmir. Filiz graduated from the State Conservatory of Istanbul Technical University in 1984. He studied with ney player (neyzen) Fuat Türkelman and other important teachers. He has given many saz recitals and solo concerts. He participated in the 18th Istanbul Music Festival with ud artist Samim Karaca. Filiz has also given his concerts at several Universities to introduce ney and classic Turkish music to the younger generation. In 1983 he started serving as a saz artist in the Istanbul State Classic Turkish Music Chorus. In 1990 he founded “Yansımalar” group with Birol Yayla and has given many concerts both in Turkey and abroad: America, France, Germany, Belarus, Sudan, Egypt, Tunis and Bahrain. As the Yansımalar group they prepared CDs: “Yansımalar” (1991), “Babı-ı Esrar” (1995), “Serzeniş” (2001), “Vuslat” (2001) and “Pervane” (2004). In addition to the aforementioned, Filiz founded another group “Bezmara” with musician friends, and has given Turkish classical concerts using antique instruments pieces belonging to the period of 1500-1750. These works were recorded in the albums: “Topkapı’nın İhtişamı” (1998) and “Yitik Sesin Peşinde” (2000). Filiz and Yayla also released traditional Turkish Music albums “Mahur” (1997) and “Miras” with Samim Karaca, Taner Sayacıoğlu and Lütfiye Özer. They also produced and recorded Münip Utandı’s first solo album “Aynalıkavak’tan Kalamış’a” and a big tandur master Necdet Yaşars’ “Geçmişten Bugüne Necdet Yaşar” which was his first album in Turkey. Between 1999 and 2000, Filiz prepared and presented a program “Gelenekten Geleceğe Yansımalar” with Birol Yayla at BRT TV. In 2002-2003, they also presented a program “Yansımalar” at TRT. The album “Neyzen Tevfik”, which was advised by Filiz, was released in 2001.
