Dr. Ayşe Kuş Durakoğlu began her musical education in Istanbul, and graduated from the Istanbul State Conservatory. She received a scholarship from the Turkish Government, and went to the United States to pursue her graduate studies. After receiving her master’s degree in music from the Juilliard School, Durakoğlu earned a doctoral degree with notable distinction at New York University, where she also served in the Faculty of Piano.  As a member of the NYU Chamber Music Society, she premiered numerous works at Merkin Hall, and won the NYU′s Chamber Music Special Award for her contribution and leadership.

Durakoğlu has concertized widely as soloist and chamber musician throughout Turkey, Russia, Europe, Canada and the United States. She has performed as soloist in the International Istanbul Music Festivals in Russia, Musical Intersection and Niagara International Chamber Music Festival in Canada with a repertoire extending from early Baroque to the Twenty-First century. She has appeared with major orchestras in Turkey and has been featured on radio and television programs. In the United States, she has performed in major venues like Merkin Concert Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie, Kay Playhouse, and Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center in New York; Jan Popper Theater at UCLA and Hancock Auditorium in Los Angeles; World Bank, and Anderson House Concert Series in Washington DC; Tsai Performing Arts Center and Federal Reserve Bank Series in Boston; and the Assembly Hall in Chicago.

Durakoğlu has also presented numerous lecture-recitals on the music of Turkish composers and piano music of Claude Debussy. Since 1998, she has continued to perform with the Chamber Music Society “Musica Mundana”, which she founded, throughout the United States. Currently, Durakoğlu teaches piano, history of music, Eastern Mediterranean and Turkish Music classes at Stevens Institute of Technology.
