Taner Birsel was born in Akhisar in 1959. He studied journalism and public relations between 1976 and 1980. He then studied at the Theater Department in the State Conservatory of Mimar Sinan University between 1981 and 1985. Since 1985, Birsel has performed in more than 30 theaters at the Istanbul State Theatre. He has also acted in many films and TV dramas since 1995. He starred in “İtiraf” (the Confession), which was screened in the Un Certain Rehard section at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002.
