Ömer Atay was born in Istanbul in 1969. In 1989, he started working as a producer in the advertisement world, and has shot more than 1500 advertising films for many companies. Since 1994, he has worked in the Atlantik Film, which he founded with Reha Erdem. He produced his first long film “Kaç Para Kaç” in 1999. His film was screened in many international cinema festivals in Tokyo, Munich, London, Goteborg, Oslo, Salonika, Jerusalem, Washington D.C., Palm Springs, New Delhi, Montpellier and Seattle. Atay represented Turkey in the section of Foreign Films for “the Best Foreign Film” in the Oscar Awards. His second long film “Korkuyorum Anne” was directed by Reha Erdem in 2004. Atay received a Fipresci Award in the 23rd International Istanbul Film Festival. With the film “Korkuyorum Anne”, he participated in many international film festivals in Istanbul, Goteborg, Copenhagen, and Montpellier. His film was awarded “the Best Director” (for Reha Erdem), “the Best Scenario” (Nilüfer Güngörmüş and Reha Erdem), “the Best Actor” (Ali Düşenkalkar), “the Best Supporting Actress” (Işıl Yücesoy), “the Best Supporting Actor” (Köksal Engür), and “the Hopeful Actor” (Ozan Uygun) in Ankara. His film "Korkuyorum Anne" was also granted many awards such as “the Best Scenario” and “Jury Special Award” (Nilüfer Güngörmüş and Reha Erdem), “the Best Supporting Actress” (Işıl Yücesoy) in the Altın Koza Film Festival; and “the Best Scenario”, “the Best Third Film”, “the Best Costume”, “the Best Montage” and “the Best Art Director” in the Aktın Portakal Film Festivals. Besides being a producer, Atay also works as an art director and costume designer. He also teaches film direction.
