Müjde Ar was born in Istanbul in 1954. She studied German Language and Literature at Istanbul University but discontinued. She married TV director Samim Değer at the age of 21, and started working as a model. After being an actress and performing in Turkish films during the 1970s and 80s, she became famous with Yavuz Turgul′s film "Fahriye Abla" (1984). Since then, she has worked with renowned Turkish directors such as Atıf Yılmaz, Halit Refiğ, Başar Sabuncu, and Ertem Eğilmez; and acted in 53 films including "Ah Güzel İstanbul" (directed by Ömer Kavur), "Adı Vasfiye" (directed by Atıf Yılmaz), "Asılacak Kadın" (directed by Başar Sabuncu), "Aaahh Belinda" (directed by Atıf Yılmaz), and "Afife Jale" (directed by Şahin Kaygun).

Ar has received several film awards including the Golden Orange in Antalya Film Festival and the Turkish Cinema Critics Association Best Actress Award. She also served as a presenter in the 2005 Ankara Flying Broom Women′s Film Festival. Currently, Ar continues performing in many films.
