Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun was born in 1973. After graduating from the Department of Electrical Engineering of Yıldız Technical University in 1995, he completed his study at the Department of Film, TV and Digital Media of California University (UCLA) in 2000.  Coşkun has shot three short films in the USA: and received the “Knightly Hours” award for “Lighthouse / Deniz Feneri” by UCLA. In Turkey, he shot three documentary films. Coşkun received an award “Turkish Authors Association” for "Aliya" film in 2002. He received a “Signal Reward” for his first fiction film, “Uzak İhtimal”, in the 38th International Rotterdam Film Festival in 2009. In the same year, Coşkun was awarded for the same film “Altın Lale, the Best Turkish Director of the Year” in the 28th Istanbul Film Festival and “the Best Director” in the 16th Altın Koza Film Festival.
