Göktuğ Sarıöz was born in Istanbul. He studied textile design at Marmara University. He completed his master’s degree in Fine Arts at his alma mater. He participated and received awards in many art shows and competitions such as the Serotonin II Festival, the Windsor & Newton Painting Competition in Ankara, and the Annual Contemporary Artists Show in Istanbul. He was also awarded honorary mention at the 53rd Annual Painting and Sculpture Competition, which was organized by the Turkish Government. After moving to New York in 1994, Sarıöz completed his second master’s degree in Communication Arts for Film and Video at the New York Institute of Technology in 1998. During his study, he made three experimental film projects: “Namely, No” (1995), “Chase” (1996) and “Untitled 3” (1996). He has also directed a music video for group “Wax Poetic”. In 1998, he received Best in Show at the Tapehouse Company’s Annual Exhibition.

He has made trailers and TV spots for movies including Chicago, Gangs of New York, 40 Days and 40 Nights, Birthday Girl, Chocolat, Scary Movie 2, Kate & Leopold, Naqoyqatsi, Pinocchio, Pokemon 4ever and Malena. He has also post-supervised on the finishing stages for numerous films including Shakespeare in Love, Goodwill Hunting, Life is Beautiful, and Scream 2. Sarıöz received a Key Art Award by the Hollywood reporter in 2002 for the best comedy / TV spot for Scary Movie 2. He has continued exhibiting his artworks at many galleries in New York including Galley 459 in Soho, Gallery Alexie and cb’s 313 Gallery. Currently, Sarıöz works for Miramax films as senior / editor creative director.
