Filiz Akın was born in Ankara in 1943. She is one of the most famous actresses in the history of Turkish cinema starring in more than 120 films, mostly in the 1960s and 1970′s. Akın graduated from TED Ankara College and then studied archaeology at the Faculty of Letters of Ankara University. She left the University for a career in cinema. In 1962, she won a competition held by the film star magazine and made debut in the film “Akasyalar Açarken”. She performed in numerous films with famous actors such as Zeki Müren, Sadri Alışık, Ediz Hun, İzzet Günay, Tarık Akan and Kartal Tibet.

In 1971, Akın was awarded “the Best Actress” for “Ankara Ekspresi” in the Antalya Altın Portakal Film Festival. In 1989, she played a leading role with Rutkay Aziz and Mehmet Günsür in “Geçmiş Bahar Mimozaları” for TRT. She then started writing in a newspaper as a columnist. In 2002, she got chin cancer but succeeded in overcoming it. In 2005, she wrote her experience in some books: “Hayattan Merhaba” and “Filiz Akın ile Güzellik, Sağlık ve Genç Kalma Üzerine”. In 2004, Akın prepared a book entitled “Dört Yapraklı Yonca” which contains life stories of Bircan Silan Usallı, Filiz Akın, Türkan Şoray, Hülya Koçyiğit and Fatma Girik. In 2007, Pınar Çekirge prepared a book “Başrolde Filiz Akın” and wrote about Akın’s iconographical and sociological value in Turkish Films. As of today Akın continues to write columns in Sabah newspaper. In 2009, she received an honorary award in the 6th Altın Koza Film Festival.
