Erkan Can was born in Bursa in 1958. He started acting at the age of 16 with the Bursa State Theatre. He took acting training at the Industrial Vocational High School. After finishing his military service, Can studied at the Theater Department in the Istanbul State Conservatory. Before graduating in 1990, he debuted in the film "Davacı" (1986), which was directed by Zeki Ökten. In 1991-1992 Can performed in the Bakırköy Municipal Theatre. Besides film and theatre, Can has also acted in many TV series. In 2000, he appeared in the film "Dar Alanda Kısa Paslasmalar" and "Vizontele," which was directed by Ömer Faruk Sorak and Yılmaz Erdoğan. In 2003 Can acted in the film "Yazı Tura," for which he received the Best Actor Award in the Siyad Turkish Film Awards in 2004. He also received the Best Actor Award for his role in the film "Gemide," in the 35th Antalya Film Festival, Ankara Film Festival (1999), and Orhan Arıburunu Awards. Can won the Best Actor prize twice in the Golden Orange Film Festival for his role in the film "On Board" and "Takva: A Man′s Fear of God," with which he won the Best Actor Award in the 43rd Antalya Film Festival (2006), the 28th Siyad Turkish Film Awards (2006), the First Asia Pacific Screen Awards (2007), the 12th Nurnberg Turkish / German Film Festival (2007), as well as the 26th Istanbul Film Festival (2007). Can currently lives and works in Istanbul.
