Emre Akay was born in Ankara in 1978. After studying Economy, Law, and Sociology at Sorbonne University, he pursued his Master′s degree in Communication and Media at Genève University. Akay has directed short films, music videos, and commercials. In 2003 he directed his first short film "Proxémique." It won the first prize at the Istanbul Bilsar Short Film Competition and was screened in numerous festivals. His first feature film "Bir Tuğra Kaftancıoğlu Filmi" (A Film By Tugra Kaftancioglu) was co-directed with Hasan Yalaz in 2003 and released in 2008. His short film "Küçük Bir Hakikat" (A Small Truth) premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival and won the Film Critics Association Award in Turkey. Akay currently continues his Master′s degree at the Department of Cinema-TV in the Faculty of Communication at Istanbul Bilgi University. He also works as a research assistant in the Department of Art and Cultural Management at the same university.
