Cüneyt Arkın was born in the Karaçay village in the district of Alpu, Eskişehir in 1937. He finished high school education at Eskişehir Atatürk High School and graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Istanbul University in 1961. He caught a film director’s attention when the film, in which Göksel Arsoy starred, was shot in the place where Arkın did his military service. He then decided to be an actor and started acting in 1963. In the same year, Arkın received the first prize in the artist competition of “Artist” magazine. In 1969, he was awarded the “Best Actor” prize with the film “İnsanlar Yaşadıkça” in the Antalya Altın Portakal Film Festival. In 1972, he received the "Best Actor” prize in the 4th Adana Altın Koza Film Festival. In 1976, Arkın received the “Best Actor” prize with the film “Mağlup Edilmeyenler” in the Antalya Film Festival. In 1999, he was awarded “Honorable Award in His Whole Life” in the 36th Antalya Film Festival. Until today, Arkın has performed in more than 300 films. He has also given numerous conferences on alcohol and drugs, and has gotten many awards and certificates on this matter. Arkın has also shown up on different branches of Turkish TV. In 2013, he received an honorary award in the 18th Sadri Alışık Theatre and Cinema Acting Awards.
