Çetin Tunca was born in Kemalpaşa, Izmir in 1938. He graduated from the Art History Department in the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University. He started shooting films while he studied at the university. He worked as an assistant of Turgut Ören for the film "Beş Hasta Var" (1956), which was directed by Atif Yılmaz. Tunca also worked as an assistant for other films such as "Dolandırıcılar Şahı" (1960), "Ölüm Perdesi" (1960). He moved to Germany after finishing his military service, and worked at a TV channel. After he returned to Turkey, Tunca worked with Kaya Ererez for a while. His first film as cinematographer is "Horasan′ın Üç Atlısı" (1965). Since then he has worked for numerous films such as "Menekşe Gözler" (1969), "Üç Arkadaş" (1971), "Gülşah" (1975), "Selvi Boylu Al Yazmalım" (1977), "Talihli Amele" (1980), "Şalvar Davası" (1983), "Hayallerim, Aşkım ve Sen" (1987), and "Köpekler Adası" (1996). Tunca has also worked for many documentary films. He has received many awards including an honorary award in the 36th Istanbul Film Festival (2016). He is the founder of the company Tuca Film. Tunca currently continues his work in Istanbul.
