Ömer Sami Güpgüp was born in Kayseri in 1942. He was brought up in an environment of Turkish classical music. In his childhood, Ömer Sami learned Hicazlar and Kürdili Hicazkar songs from Ahmet Mithat Güpgüpoğlu, a oud composer and his grandfather. Ömer Sami moved to Istanbul with his family when he was a middle school student. After finishing his higher education, he learned Turkish music from famous artists such as Münir Nurettin Selçuk, oud player Rıdvan Aytan, Kanun player Nuri Şenneyli, and oud player Hasan Erkoç. Ömer Sami gave many concerts in Turkey. Ömer Sami Güpgüp passed away in Istanbul in 2016.
