Prof. Hüseyin Gezer
(1920-2013)

Prof. Hüseyin Gezer was born in Mut (İçel) in 1920. In 1944 he entered the Sculpture Department in the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts and studied with Belling. After graduating from the Academy in 1948, Gezer received a scholarship and went to Paris to study at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts and Academie Julian Ecole du Louvre. Gezer returned back to Turkey in 1950 and started working as an assistant at the Sculpture Department of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1950. He participated in 16 group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad and made 37 monuments and busts. He received more than 16 awards in various competitions. In 1966-1969 Gezer served as Chair of the Academy. 1969-1976 he served as Director of the Museum of Painting and Sculpture. Gezer passed away in Istanbul in 2013.
