Gülten Akın was born in Yozgat in 1933. She graduated from the Faculty of Law at Ankara University in 1955. She got married to Yaşar Cankoçak in 1956. Between 1958 and 1972, she frequently moved with her family due to her husband′s district governorship. Akın worked as a lawyer and teacher in many districts such as Gevaş, Alucra, Gerze, Saray, and Kahramanmaraş. Akın and her falimly settled in Ankara in 1972 and she worked at the Turkish Language Association. She also served in the  Editorial Advisory Board of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Akın worked to establish many associations such as Human Rights Association (Insan Hakları Derneği), People′s Houses (Halkevleri), and Language Association (Dil Derneği.)

In 1951 Akın published her first poem in Son Haber daily newspaper. After then her poems were published in many poetry magazines such as Hisar, Varlık, Yeditepe, Türk Dili, and Mülkiye. These poems were translated into different languages, and more than 40 poems were composed by musicians. She received many awards for her poetry works. Akın passed away in Ankara in 2015.
