Çolpan İlhan was born in Izmir in 1936. After finishing at Kandilli High School for Girls, she studied theatre at Istanbul Municipality Conservatory and graduated from the Painting Department at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. She founded the theatre group "Akademi Tiyatrosu" with her friends and staged some plays. In 1957 İlhan acted in her first film "Kamelyalı Kadın." In the same year, she performed in her first play "Sevgili Gölge" with Münir Özkul and Uğur Başaran. İlhan acted in more than 300 films and theatre plays. In 1997 she established the Sadri Alışık Theater Company. In the next year, she received the title of "State Artist of Turkey" from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.  In 2013 İlhan won the Lifetime Achievement Award in the 20th Altın Koza Film Festival. İlhan passed away in Istanbul in 2014.
