Şükrü Erbaş was born in 1953 in Yozgat. He graduated from the Department of Social Sciences at the Gazi Institute of Education in Ankara in 1978. Erbaş then worked at a soil products office for a long time. After retiring, he worked for "Yarın" literary magazine in 1984. He has also served as a director in the Association of Litterateurs.

Erbaş published his first poem in Varlık poetry magazine in 1978. He has received several awards including Ceyhun Atuf Kansu Poem Award for his poem "Yolculuk" (1987), Orhon Murat Arıburnu Poem Award for his poetry book "Dicle Üstü Ay Bulanık" (1996), Ahmed Arif Poem Award for his poetry book "Üç Nokta Beş Harf" (2002), Ömer Asım Aksoy Poem Award for his poetry book "Gölge Masalı" (2005), and the 17th Golden Orange Poetry Award (2012). Erbaş has also written essays on poetry, literature and life. He collected his essays in the book entitled "İnsanın Acısını İnsan Alır" (1995) and "Bir Gün Ölümden Önce" (1999). In 2015 Erbaş received the First Dağlarca Poetry Award for his book "“Pervane.” He currently lives and works in Ankara.
