Aydın Hatipoğlu was born in Şanlıurfa in 1940. He finished Haydarpaşa High School. He studied at Istanbul University, the Faculty of Law for two years, and then transferred to the Faculty of Letter, the Department of Sociology. In 1958, his first poem was published in “Yelken” magazine, which was edited by Şükran Kurdakul. Since then Hatipoğlu has continued writing his poems in various magazines such as Ataç, Varlık, Yeditepe and Yeni Gerçek, Yansıma, Yeni Adımlar, Karşı, Gerçek Sanat, Evrensel Kültür and Güzel Yazılar. He was one of founders, who published Yeni Gerçek (1967) and Gelecek (1971) magazine. He served as a general secretary in the Turkish Literary Association (Türk Edebiyatçılar Birliği); as a founder and general secretary in the Turkish Artists Association (Türkiye Sanatçılar Birliği); as a committee member in the Turkish Writer’s Union (Türkiye Yazarlar Sendikası). As of today, Hatipoğlu works as a committee member in the Nazım Hikmet Foundation, Emin Türk Eliçin Foundation and the Turkish Writer’s Union. He also serves as an advisor for programs in TRT and TV8. In addition, Hatipoğlu writes column in Bizim Gazete, which is published by Turkish Journalist Association (Türkiye Gazeteciler Cemiyeti). In 2004, Hatipoğlu was awarded the Ceyhun Atuf Kansu Poet Prize for his book “Yalnız Karanfil Sokağı”.
