Prof. Dr. Zehra İpşiroğlu was born in 1949. She graduated from Freiburg University and Berlin University. In 1976, she started teaching at the Department of German Language and Literature in the Faculty of Literature at Istanbul University. In 1992, İpşiroğlu founded the Department of Dramaturge and Theatre Reviews at the same university and served as Chair until 1998. In 1998-2009, she taught in the Department of Turkish Language at Duisburg-Essen University in Germany. Prof. İpşiroğlu has written various types of works from educational, literary publications, and theater plays to novels, review essays, short stories, memoires, and translations as well as children books. She has received many awards for her works including the first prize in the Milliyet Art Film Story Competition (1978), first prize in the Milliyet Art and Literary Review (1987), Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism Theatre Research and Investigation Award (1993), Orhan Kemal Story Competition Award (1997), Extraordinary Child Literary Award, A. Baştürk İşçi Literary Award (2008), Yapı Kredi Special Prize in the 18th Afife Theater Awards (2014), and Duygu Asena Novel Award (2016). Prof. İpşiroğlu currently continues her work as a freelance writer in Cologne and Istanbul.
