Orhan Koçak was born in Istanbul in 1948. He graduated from the Department of Administrative Sciences at Middle East Technical University. He was a founding member of Defter journal, which was published between 1987 and 2002. As publication director, Koçak started a series of literary theory and criticism at the Metis publications. He has written many articles and literary critics. Among his publications are "İmgenin Halleri" (Metis, 1995), "Modern ve Ötesi: Elli Yılın Sanatına Kenar Notları" (Bilgi, 2008), "Bahisleri Yükseltmek" (Metis, 2011) and "Kopuk Zincir" (Metis, 2012). He has translated many literary works of famous writers including T. W. Adorno, Max Horkheimer, Melanie Klein and Samuel Beckett. Koçak currently works as general publication director of Virgül magazine. He is a founding member of the Kanat publications. In 2016 Koçak received "Erdal Öz Literary Award."
